Rebbetzin Malka used to prepare a pot of ‘kasha’ (buckwheat) for Shabbos and served it herself to the visiting chassidim.  She was once asked how she always had enough kasha for everyone – especially on those Shabbosim when guests arrive at the last minute, and she didn’t count on them in advance.  

The Rebbetzin replied: “I put a piece of my heart into the pot, and I ask Hashem that I shouldn’t experience any shame, as I give off myself to the guests and therefore the blessing comes into my pot; Hashem sends His Bracha that no one should be lacking of food – as Shlomo Hamelech said: “טוב־עין הוא יברך כי־נתן מלחמו לדל” – a good eye will be blessed for he gavehis wares to the poor.
