ודרשת וחקרת והנה אמת נכון הדבר נעשתה התועבה הזאת (ראה יג:טו)

One Shabbos at the Tish of the Ohav Yisroel of Apt zt’’l, the Ohav Yisroel honored a Rav to say a Dvar Torah. As soon as the Rav started saying his Torah, the Apter Rav understood that the Rav had prepared this Dvar Torah in advance in order to show off his great wisdom and depth of knowledge. It greatly bothered the Apter Rav and he said, that it says in the passuk: ודרשת – if you give a nice speech, because וחקרת – you prepared in advance, והנה אמת נכון הדבר – then your Dvar Torah and intentions can be true, but נעשתה התועבה הזאת – it is not a pure Dvar Torah – it is a prepared speech to show off your greatness, which is a תועבה לפני ה’ – a disgrace to the Ribbono Shel Olam!
