CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת וישב
Parshas Vayeshev
ויאמר אליהם שמעו נא החלום הזה אשר חלמתי (וישב לז:ו)
And he said to them, “Hear, if you please, this dream which I dreamt.”
Here is a story about a dream from the first Rebbe of Belz zt’’l – also known as the Sar Shalom – minister of peace:
A Halachic question was once presented to the Sar Shalom of Belz regarding a fold on the lung of an animal, questioning if the lung was torn due to this anomaly. After lifting the fold, a crease became visible, but the lung itself was not torn. This issue is discussed in Halacha by the greatest Poskinm of the previous generations. The author of “Tevuos Shor” – a Halachic compendium on the laws of Kosher meat – and the author of “Pri Megadim” on the Shulchan Oruch, both are stringent in prohibiting the meat in such a case, whilst authors of the responsa “Noda B’Yehuda” and the “Chasam Sofer” are lenient, permitting it.
The Sar Shalom’s rule leaned on the “Noda B’Yehuda” to be lenient about the Kashrus of the animal. When the questioner asked Maran the Sar Shalom why he ruled in favor of the “Noda B’Yehuda,” the Sar Shalom replied:
“Honestly, I am not proficient enough to answer such a question like the Noda B’Yehuda. However, this past night, Noda B’Yehuda came to me in a dream and asked if I would be presented with such a Sheila – question that I should fulfill his request and Pasken – rule according to his opinion.”
