CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת נח
Parshas Noach
ויבא נח ובניו ואשתו ונשי בניו אל התיבה מפני מי המבול (נח ז:ז)
And Noach, with his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, went came into the Ark because of the waters of the Flood.
The Mitteler Rav zt”l related what he heard from his father, The Sar Shalom of Belz zt”l, that his Rebbe, the Rebbe of Lublin zt”l once said: “You are a tzaddik” and added, “If someone were to tell me that I am a tzaddik I wouldn’t believe him. And even if Malachim – angels will tell me, I wouldn’t believe them. And if Hashem would tell me, I would only believe it for a second and not a second later.”
The Sar Shalom said that the Rebbe of Lublin explained the Rashi that says “אף נח מקטני אמנה’” – even Noach was from the ones who believe little in Hashem. Since Hashem told Noach, “כי אותך ראיתי צדיק לפני בדור הזה” – for it is you who I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation – Noach believed what Hashem told him for only a second, but a second later he didn’t believe that he was still a tzaddik.
