This is the law of the elevation offering. This is the law of the elevation offering.
Chazal say that the Korban – sacrifice was an atonement for a person’s evil thoughts.
Maran Reb Aharon of Belz was sitting deep in thought, engrossed with a kvittal of one of his chassidim standing before him. When the Tchoker Rav had this thought, Maran paused from his holy thoughts, placed one hand over the other, and exclaimed loudly: “Who moved the table?” Who moved the table?”
Everyone in the room was astonished; the table had not moved. His gabbai Reb Shulem Foigel z’’l tried placating Maran by saying that the table was in its original place and no one had moved it. But Maran repeated, “Who moved the table?”
Reb Shulem turned to the crowd and asked everyone separately if they had moved the table. When he asked the Tchoker Rav if he moved the table, he replied: “Chas V’Shalom! I didn’t move the table. I only wondered why the table isn’t in the middle of the room.”
Reb Shulem repeated this to Maran Reb Ahron, who exclaimed: “Ah! He only thought about moving the table…Nu…” and he continued his עבודת הקודש by accepting more kvittlach.
