CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת שלח
Parshas Shlach
טובה הארץ מאוד מאוד. (שלח יד:ז)
The land is very very good.In the year 1774, when the holy Rebbe of Shpitivka RebYaakov Shimshon Zt”l of Shepetivka (Szepetówka, nowadays in Ukrainia) went to live in the holy land, he went on his own, and only later did he return to bring his family with him. As he was nearing his previous hometown, he stayed at an in on the road, not far from Shepetivka, explaining to his followers that the journey to and from the holy land had its toll on his body, insofar that now looks half his size. So that his townspeople – when they see him in his malnourished state – should not speak evil about Eretz Yisrael, that there is no food over there, he made sure to eat healthy meals so that he will look fitter.
