דברי ריבת בשעריך… (שופטים יז:ח)

A group of residents from a different city once came to the Avnei Nezer of Sochotchov zt’’l with a complaint that their Rav deemed Kosher a question pertaining to בשר וחלב that the Achronim were very stringent about, and that they are scared to rely on their Rav to pasken – give a verdict on such stringent questions, therefore they want to appoint another Dayan in their city.

The Avnei Nezer dissuaded them from doing so since it would cause great quarrels, saying: According to what you’re saying your Rav gave a Kosher verdict on something that is אסור דרבנן – forbidden by our Rabbanim —- and you want to transgress something that is forbidden in the Torah – machlokos – quarreling is an איסור דאוריתא. The Avnei Nezer explained the passuk “כי יפלא ממך דבר למשפט בין דם לדם בין דין לדין” if a matter of judgement is hidden from you , between blood and blood, between verdict and verdict…” Why? Because דברי ריבת בשעריך – there is quarelling in your city.
