CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת פקודי
Parshas Pekudei
והשיב לב אבות על בנים ולב בנים על אבותם (הפטרה לפרשת החודש)
And he will return the hearts of fathers on children and the hearts of children on fathers.
The Chassid R’ Shmuel Reich a”h recounted that in his youth, when he once went with his father R’ Yechezkel Reich a”h to Maran Reb Aharon of Belz zt”l for Shabbos Parshas HaChodesh, the Rebbe zt”l of Klausenburg asked him to listen well to Maran’s Divrei Torah, so that when he returns, he should repeat be able to repeat what Maran Reb Aharon said during the Tisch.
When he returned home, he repeated the Divrei Torah from Maran to the Klausenburger Rebbe:
Maran said on the words “הנה זה בא לפרקים” that Moshiach won’t come at once; he will come “לפרקים” – in parts, slowly. When the Klausenburger Rebbe heard this, he emitted a deep sigh and said: “I thought Moshiach was almost here, but the Belzer Rebbe says הנה זה בא לפרקים.”
Sometime later, when the Klausenberg Rebbe had an opportunity to meet with Maran Reb Aharon of Belz, he repeated what he had heard from R’ Shmuel Reich and asked Reb Aharon: “Why should Moshiach delay after we suffered so much?” (This was post-WWII, during which both of these Tzaddikim lost their respective families and communities.)
Maran replied: “Do you think it will be beneficial that Moshiach comes when the Yidden are in such a poor state? It will be much better that Moshiach comes after we rebuild the Jewish community to its former glory. We will see the fulfillment of the passuk “והשיב לב אבות על בנים ולב בנים על אבותם” – and he will return the hearts of fathers to the children and the hearts of children to the fathers” – only then Moshiach will come!”
