CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת לך לך
Parshas Lech Lecha
ויאמר השם אל אברם לך לך מארצך וממולדתך ומבית אביך אל הארץ אשר אראך (לך יב:א)
And Hashem said to Avram: “Go for yourself from your land, from your birthplace and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.”
The holy Chozeh of Lublin zt”l first lived in Lantzut (Łańcut, Poland) and used to travel to his Rebbe in Lizhensk (Leżajsk, Poland). Once, when the Holy Choze-Seer – visited his Rebbe Reb Elimelech of Lizhensk zt”l, the Rebbe said to his Talmid – disciple: “Hashem commanded Avram “לך לך… אל הארץ אשר אראך” and then told him – translating this passuk in his own way: “Move away from Lantzut and go live somewhere else”, but the Rebbe did not tell his Chossid where he should move to.
That night, Avraham Avinu visited the holy Chozeh in a dream and greeted him. The Chozeh asked: “Who are you?” and Avraham Avinu replied: “I am the one whom Hashem commanded “לך לך.” I withstood this נסיון – test – and you, too, will withstand the same challenge”.
The Chozeh left his birthplace in Small Poland (a.k.a. Galicia) and departed for Poland proper (a.k.a. Congress Poland), not knowing where his feet were taking him. Just at that time, the Rav of Lublin passed away and the heads of the community traveled to Lantzut to invite the Chozeh and appoint him as their Rav. Midway, they met the Chozeh and escorted him to Lublin with great honor, appointing him as Rav of Lublin.
