CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת עקב
Parshas Eikev
ולעבדו בכל לבבכם…(עקב יא:יג)
And to serve Him with your heart…
The Goan Reb Boruch Shimon Shneurson zt’’l participated in one of Rosh Hashana Tischen of the Belzer RovZt”l at a time when his father-in-law, the Tchebiner Rav zt’’l, was gravely ill, suffering from a heart condition. The gabbai Reb Shulem Fogel a’’h told Maran Reb Aharon that the Tchebiner Rav’s son-in-law is here. Maran Reb Aharon inquired about the Tchebiner Rav’s health. Reb Shulem replied that the doctors say that his situation is dire.
Maran Reb Aharon said to be mazkir (mention) the Tchebiner Rav’s name for a refuah shlaima, and then sat deep in thought for a while. Soon after, he exclaimed: “Do they understand what a אידישע הארץ – the heart of a Jew is? Ha!” And what a Yiddish heart!”
The Tchibener Rav recovered and continued spreading Torah for another two decades!
