CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת בהר
Parshas Bhar
ונתתי שלום בארץ…(בחקותו כו:ו) וכי ימוך אחיך ומטה ידו עמך והחזקת בו (בהר כה:לה)
I will provide peace in the Land.
When the Rebbe Reb Levi Yitzchak of Bardichov zt’’l became renowned, there were a lot of מתנגדים – people opposed to chassidus. The tzaddik once came to a city for Shabbos, and two of its Rabbonim came to greet him. One was the Rav of the “חברה שניידערס” – group of tailors, and the other was the Rav of “חברה מעהל-הענדלערס” – group of flour peddlers. They were both Misnagdim and greeted Reb Levi Yitzchak with some disdain.
Reb Levi Yitzchak responded to their greeting that since I don’t know which of you is a greater Rabbi , I’m giving you one “Shalom” greeting.
The Rabbi continued chiding The Bardichover and told him to share some Torah. “Sure thing,” responded The Bardichover, saying: “The Gemara in Shabbos says that when Moshiach comes, the earth of Eretz Yisroel will produce finished silk clothes and ripe fruit. I always wondered about this Gemara. What would we gain from it? But now, seeing both of you, your groups have separate Rabbis. When Moshiach comes and the Land produces finished clothes and ready food, we won’t need tailors and flour peddlers, and we will benefit that we will get rid of the Tailor Rabbi and the Flour Peddler Rabbi.”
