CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת יתרו
Parshas Yitro
לא תעשה לך פסל וכל תמונה (יתרו כ:ד)
You shall not make for yourself a carved image nor any likeness.
Reb Hershel Lipchitz z”l, the Viener Rosh Hakahal in Williamsburg, merited to be in the presence of Maran Reb Yissocher Dov of Belz zt”l, Maran Reb Aharon of Belz zt”l, and yibodel l’chaim – may he live long – the current Belzer Rebbe shlita.
Reb Hershel related that when Maran Reb Yissocher Dov of Belz was in the city of Munkas (Munkács (Mukachevo), Hungary), it happened once that before stepping out of the horse-drawn wagon, a goy wanted to snap a picture of the Rebbe. The gabbai – the Rebbe’s assistant, tried to hold the goy back from taking a photo, but Maran said to allow the goy to capture a photo, saying: “They should see how an ehrliche Yid – upstanding Jew – looks like!”
