CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת מסעי
Parshas Massai
אלה מסעי בני ישראל אשר יצאו מארץ מצרים (מסעי: לג-א)
These are the journeys of Klal Yisroel who went forth from the land of Egypt…
Harav Reb Menachem Nochum of Rachmestrivka zt’’l was once traveling and needed to stay overnight in a particular city. In the morning, after davening, he exclaimed: “If it was destined from heaven that I should be here, then there must be a purpose. Whenever I travel to a place, I try to accomplish something there, but I haven’t yet accomplished anything here, and there must be something for me to accomplish!”
He summoned the Roshei Kehilla – community leaders and he learned from them that, unfortunately, in this city, a terrible fight is going on between the shochtim (slaughters), Rabbinim, and the community members. Reb Menachem Nochum exclaimed: “Now I know why I’m here!” Immediately, he summoned everyone and made peace between them. After the fights subsided and peace was restored, the Rachmestrivka Rebbe continued his travels.
