CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת וירא
Parshas Vayera
אם נא מצאתי חן בעיניך אל נא תעבור מעל עבדיך… (וירא יח:ג)
If I find favor in Your eyes now, please pass not away from your servant.
The mitzvah of Hachnasas Orchim (taking in guests) is a merit for יראת שמים – fear of G-d and Shidduchim (good spouses for your children.)
Maran Reb Aharon of Belz zt”l stayed at the house of Reb Duvid Landau a”h home while he was in Krakow during his escape. Maran Reb Aharon praised Reb Duvid: “He has a golden heart and does not shirk away from fulfilling the mitzvah of tzedakah.”
Reb Duvid was wealthy, and his daughters dressed according to the latest trends; thus, he had a hard time doing shidduchim with them, which pained him greatly.
A Belzer Chassid, Reb Meir Frankel a”h, once stopped by at the home of Reb Duvid while on his way to visit his Rebbe, Maran Reb Yissochor Dov of Belz zt”l. Reb Duvid sent along a kvittal – personal request – to Maran Reb Yissochor Dov, requesting that he be blessed with finding shidduchim for his daughters.
Maran Reb Yissochor Dov said: “I’ll give Reb Duvid an idea. He should see to host not only chashuv – important and esteemed guests. He should also host poor people. When his daughters will clean the lice off the guests’ beds, they will get infused with יראת שמים.”
