CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת תצוה
Parshas Tetzaveh
ואתה תצוה את בני ישראל (תצוה כז:כ)
And you you shall command the Yidden.
When Reb Shaul Rosenberg, the Baal Chemdas Yisroel zt”l was offered a Rabbinic position at a young age, he declined the offer. His argument was that since a Rav of a town needs to be honorably addressed in third person and he was worried that, being so young, people might talk to him in first person, saying “you” instead of “the Rav,” and it is not the appropriate honor for a Rav.
RFriediger Rav zt”l. ואתה תצוה את בני ישראל” – why did Hashem have to address Moshe Rabenu with “ואתה” – when it would be equally understood by leaving out this word: “תצוה את בני ישראל” – as a continuation from the previous parsha”?
The Friediger Rav zt”l answered his own question: “Hashem told Moshe
“ואתה” – if people will address you, with the appellation of “you” and not as “the Rav”
“תצוה את בני ישראל” – you shall still serve as their leader.”
