CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת במדבר
Parshas Bamidbar
ואתכם יהיו איש איש למטה איש ראש לבית אבותיו הוא (במדבר א:ד)
And with you shall be one man from each tribe: a man who is a leader of his father’s household.
When the holy Frierdige Rav zt’’l was a young child one of the Sar Shulem of Belz zt’’l grandchildren’s chasuna was in Russia and his parents decided, because of the arduous travel, they wouldn’t take the young children to the wedding.
The Frierdige Rav wanted to attend the chasuna and begged his parents to take him along. When he saw that his pestering wasn’t helping he decided not to eat. His mother asked him, “why are you so adamant to attend the Chasunah?” The young R’ Yissocher Dov said that he’ll explain the reasoning to his father, the Mittler Rav zt’’l.
The Frierdige Rav told his father three reasons why he wants to attend the Chasuna.
1. It says in the holy Seforim that parents descend from Gan Eden to join the Simcha of their children, and if so, great tzaddikim will be present at the Simcha, and I want to meet them.
2. He saw in a dream that three Chashuv Yidden were walking with sticks in their hands and they said that they would be at the wedding.
3. It says: ואתכם יהיו איש איש למטה איש ראש לבית אבותיו – these words show that the whole family has to attend the Simcha.
The Mittler Rav was very impressed by his son’s wise words and agreed to take him along.
The Chasunah was attended by many great tzaddikim from that generation. During the chasuna the Mittler Rav told his son, the Frierdige Rav, “You said you wanted to come to the chasuna because great tzaddikim will be present,” and he pointed to the two holy brothers Rebbe Shmiel Abba zt’’l and Rebbe Pinches Schapira from Slovita zt’’l, grandchildren of the holy Rebbe R’ Pinches of Koritz zt’’l.
