CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת תרומה
Parshas Terumah
ויקחו לי תרומה (תרומה כה:א)
And they should take for Me a portion
The Frierdige Rav zt”l used different tactics when giving tzedakah. He used to hand out tzedakah a bit before Yom Tov to the city’s poor so that they would have money to purchase food and goods for Yom Tov. He would also send money to the same poor people on Erev Yom Tov.
One of his tzedakah messengers once asked the Frierdige Rav: “What can the poor person do with his money Erev Yom Tov afternoon? He for sure bought everything he needs for Yom Tov?!”
The Frierdige Rav explained: “During Yom Tov, a poor person can think about his dire situation, thinking: Currently, I have all my Yom Tov needs, but what will be after Yom Tov? From where will I have money.” Continued the Frierdige Rav, “When he knows that he has spending money for after Yom Tov, then he can be relaxed and enjoy his Yom Tov!”
