CHASSIDISHE STORY ON THE PARSHA
פרשת תרומה
Parshas Terumah
ויקחו לי תרומה (תרומה כה:א)
And they should take for Me a portion
The Frierdige Rav zt”l once expressed that his father (The Mittler Rav zt”l) was renowned in the mitzvah of tzedakah, just like the Sanzer Rav zt”l (who was very renowned in this big mitzvah.)
The Mittler Rav zt”l used to send tzedakah even to people who antagonized him. After the Mittler Rav passed away and the Frierdige Rav assumed the Rabbinic mantle in Belz, he stopped sending tzedakah to the people who persecuted his father. When his gabbai tzedakah reviewed the list of people needing tzedakah, he said that some names were missing from the list.
The Frierdige Rav explained: “My father Zichrono L’bracha used to send money because of his middah – trait – of tolerance and giving in. But I have the mitzvah of “Kibbud Av” – honoring my father and because of this mitzvah, I can not send money to people who taunted my father.”
