VORT ON PIRKEI AVOS - פרק ד : משנה א
Perek Daled - Mishna Aleph
איזהו חכם הלומד מכל אדם (אבות ד:א)
Who is a wise man? One who learns from every person.
The Mishna doesn’t write הלומד מכל מלמד” one who learns from each teacher “it says “מכל אדם who learns from each person. Since one has to seek to learn from every person and not just from mentors who want to teach them
A tailor named Elimelach lived near the Rebbe Reb Elimelach of Lizensk zt’’l. The tailor used to work until late at night by the light of a burning candle. When the tailor got tired, he would fall asleep while mending. His wife would wake him up saying: “Elimelach! Elimelach! Fix the coat as long as the candle is burning!” When the Rebbe Reb Elimelach heard the tailor’s wife’s words, he would repeat them to himself as a lesson: He should amass whatever time he has to correct his ways as long as the candle (his neshama) is still burning.
