REMEMBER YOUR LOVED ONES DURING
Shmini Atzeres Yizkor Prayers
Perpetuate their memory
Elevate their neshama (soul)

What is Yizkor?
Yizkor is a solemn and significant prayer where one pledges charity to commemorate the lives of a beloved family member that passed on

When is Yizkor said?
Yizkor is recited four times yearly: during the prayers on Yom Kippur, Shmini Atzeres, the last days of Pesach, and Shavous.

Why is Yizkor said?
Yizkor is said to strengthen the spiritual connection between us and our loved ones. Our tefillah (prayers) and tzedakah (charity) benefit both.

“One is required to light a yahrzeit candle (memorial candle) before a Yom Tov when Yizkor is said.”

Our Chachamim (sages) say:
“It’s best to fulfill one’s Yizkor pledge as close to saying Yizkor as possible.
If the commitment is not fulfilled, it causes pain to the neshamah.”

The Midrash says:
“During Yizkor, the departed soul gets immersed in holy waters and gently washed. Its status becomes pure as a newborn, which warrants the neshamah to sit amongst worthy tzaddikim in Gan Eden.”
