The Yahrzeit – כ’’א אב
The chassid Reb Chaim Nota Katz z’’l once mentioned his mother’s yahrzeit to Maran Reb Aharon of Belz zt’’l. Maran inquired when her yahrzeit is, and Reb Chaim Nota responded: “כ’’א אב.” When Maran heard the response, he turned pale and started pacing the room in fright, repeating a few times “כ’’א אב, כ’’א אב – כ’’א אב.”
DEBT…DESPAIR…A YESHUA IN OUR TIMES
A 24-year-old Avreich – Torah scholar in Eretz Yisroel, respected by all, found himself in a crushing financial crisis. After his wedding, hoping to support his family, he partnered with a businessman who convinced him to take out large loans for lucrative investments — a naive move, he obliged.
However, the businessman turned out to be a fraud. The money disappeared, and the young Avreich was left with nearly a million shekels in debt, owing to family, friends, and lenders. Desperate and drowning in loans, he felt broken and lost.
One Shabbos afternoon, he had a vivid dream. He saw old-time Chassidim hurrying to the tzion – gravesite of The Belzer Rebbe zt’’l – Reb Aharon, and urging him to go that night — it was the tzadik’s yahrzeit, and he would be saved there. He took this as a sign and went to the tzion to pour out his heart.
Three months ago, the very businessman who had taken everything suddenly reached out. Tearful and remorseful, he offered the scholar full ownership of valuable land as a form of restitution. After verifying its worth, they met and signed the transfer. From that moment, things turned around. The scholar began selling plots, paid off all debts, and became financially stable. He now regularly supports Reb Aharon’s Torah institutions.
He shares his story to inspire others: the gates of the tzadikim are open — and salvation can come, even when all seems lost.
