אם לא ירד אחיכם הקטן אתכם לא תוסיפון לראות פני (ויגש מד:כג)

The holy Rebbe Reb Levi Yitzchak zt”l of Berditchev (Berdychiv, Ukraine) used to say: This passuk alludes to the people who say: “If for me everything is fine, why do I need to worry about others”.  To these people the Torah teaches: אם לא ירד אחיכם הקטן אתכם – if you will not worry for those lower than yourself, to teach them the right path in Avodas Hashem – serving Hashem, then “לא תוסיפון לראות פני”- Hashem doesn’t want to see their face!  One must lower himself to show the ways of the Torah to others who were not so fortunate as him and did not merit to go to Cheider; this will benefit them, and he himself will benefit from spiritual growth in ways he could not have reached otherwise.
