VORT ON THE PARSHA
Parshas Beshalach

ויט משה את ידו על הים ויולך ה’ את הים ברוח קדים עזה כל הלילה וישם… (בשלח יד:כא)
And Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea, and Hashem moved the sea with a strong Eastern wind throughout the night. The Ramban asks why Hashem had to move the waters with strong gusts of wind throughout the night; why didn’t Hashem just split the sea?
The Ramban answers Hashem wanted it to appear that the sea split naturally because of the strong gusts of winds so that the Egyptians would follow the Yidden into the sea. They wouldn’t think Hashem separated the waters, especially for the Yidden. Even strong winds couldn’t split the sea, but the Egyptians didn’t acknowledge that. They just followed the Yidden into the waters since they were eager to harm them.
