ראה אנכי נותן לפניכם היום ברכה וקללה (ראה יא: כו)

See, I present before you today a blessing and a curse.

Two types of people proclaim “היום” – tzaddikim say: “Let us grasp the opportunity of היום – the present day to learn Torah and perform mitzvos, for who knows if we will still be around tomorrow and what will we have to bring along with us to the Next World?” The rashaim (evil people) say (ישעיה כב:יג): “Let us eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die.” The passuk says: היום ברכה וקללה – the “היום” can be used for both – for good or for evil.
