VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת נצבים
Parshas Nitzavim
אתם נצבים היום (נצבים כט:ט)
You are standing today, all of you.
The Trisker Maggid zt”l once asked Reb Yaakov Tzvi of Porusov zt”l to say a Dvar Torah to his Chassidim. It was the week of Parshas Nitzavim and Reb Yaakov Tzvi noted the following: “It says אתם נצבים – the word “אתם” is the acronym for אבן מקיר תזעק – a stone in the wall will cry out, היום – Rosh Hashanah. Therefore, Parshas Nitzvavim is always read before Rosh Hashanah to remind everyone that even if one has a heart of stone, he still has to lift his hands to Hashem היום – on Rosh Hashanah.”
