VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת ויצא
Parshas Vayeitzei
והנה סלם מוצב ארצה וראשה מגיע השמימה והנה מלאכי אלקים עלים וירדים בו (ויצא כח:יב)
A ladder was set earthward, and its top reached heavenward. And angels of G-d were ascending and descending on it.The word סלם is the acronym for סעודת לוית מלכה – alluding to the mitzvah of eating Suedas Melava Malka on Motzei Shabbos. מוצב ארצה – people perceive this mitzvah as small, as low as the earth, but in essence וראשה מגיע השמימה – the rewards reach the skies. והנה מלאכי אלקים – and the angels present in every Jewish home on Shabbos עולים – ascend to heaven during Melava Malka ויורדים – and descend בו – stands for ביום ו – on the sixth day, Friday.
