VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת קרח
Parshas Korach
ויקח קרח בן יצהר בן קהת בן לוי (קרח טז:א)
Korach son of Yitzhar, son of Kehos, son of Levy. The letters that make up the name “קרח” are the first letters for: “קנאה”, “רוממות” and “חמדה.” This teaches us where Korach went wrong
קנאה: He envied Moshe for being the leader of the Jewish people and was jealous of Aaron for having been anointed as Kohen Gadol.
רוממות: He invested much effort to reach a position above others.
חמדה: He coveted honor for the sake of being honored.
The above three traits are to be found in Pirkei Avosiהקנאה והתאוה והכבוד – envy, coveting, and vanity, which hasten man’s demise from this world – as indeed it is what happened to him.
