VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת ראה
Parshas Re’eh
ראה אנכי נותן לפניכם היום ברכה וקללה (ראה יא: כו)
See, I present before you today a blessing and a curse.
Moshe said “נותן” in the present tense and not “נתתי” – past tense. Since “ נתתי” can mean that the בחירה – how a person chooses to live was given to him when he was created, and throughout his life, he doesn’t have a choice of good or bad. Therefore, the passuk reads “נותן” in the present tense – a person constantly has בחירה, a choice about how to act; he can choose good until the last minute of his life.
