VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת ויקרא
Parshas Vayikra
ויקרא אל משה (ויקרא א:א)
And He called to Moshe
What is the reason for a small letter “א” – aleph at the end of the word ויקרא? During בריאת העולם – when Hashem created the world, the letter Aleph stood aside and allowed for the letter “ב” – Beis – to be the first letter in the Torah: “בראשית”, since the letter Beis stands for ברכה – blessing.
When it came to the Mount Sinai, which is in the second book of שמות – Shemos – Exodus – the letter Aleph merited to be the first letter of the Ten Commandments: “אנכי ד’ אלקיך”.
Even then, the letter “א” remained humble – as alluded to in the beginning of the third book of ויקרא – Vayikro – Leviticus: the word “ויקרא” is written with a small “א”.
