VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת פקודי
Parshas Pekudei
וירקעו את פחי הזהב וקצץ פתילים…(פקודי לט:ג)
And they thinned the sheets of gold and cut threads…
The threads used to weave the materials were made from five different materials.
One thread of thinned gold was spun with four threads of wool and linen. By spinning a gold thread – an expensive material – with the regular threads (e.g. Techaylas – wool dyed blue – and Argaman – wool dyed purple), which are of lesser value, this comes to teach the wealthy people that they should not consider themselves superior over their poor brethren – they should always strive to be באחדות – united, akin to the threads that were spinned together as one.
