VORT ON THE PARSHA
פרשת וישב
Parshas Vayeishev
וישראל אהב את יוסף מכל בניו (וישב לז:ג)
And Yisroel loved Yosef more than all his sonsThe ילקוט asks why did Yaakov Avinu favor Yosef over his brothers? And why does the pasuk have to state מכל what it could’ve said is אהב את יוסף מבניו?
If the reason is that he was his בן זקונים – from his youngest children – then Binyamin should have been his favorite since he was the youngest child. The ילקוט answers that Yaakov saw in foresight that Yosef would be king in Mitzrayim, which is depicted in the word מכל – which is the same letters as מלך – a king – and therefore, he favored Yosef over the others.
