And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates. In order to prolong your days…

Soon after the mitzvah of mezuzah is mentioned, the Torah says “למען ירבו ימיכם”—”so that your days may be multiplied.” What is the connection between these verses? The pasuk alludes to the idea that fulfilling the mitzvah of mezuzah serves as a protection, preventing harm from entering your home and thereby prolonging your life.
