לפוה משפחת הפוני (פינחס כו:כג)
Puvah, the Punite Family.
The word “פוה” is also associated with the word “פה” (mouth). The holy seforim explain that a mouth engages in Torah study attains the status of a כלי שרת — a sacred vessel used in Divine service. Therefore, such a mouth should ideally be reserved for words of Torah and holiness, and not for ordinary, mundane speech.
According to this interpretation, “לפוה” — a mouth devoted to Torah — and “משפחת הפוני” is understood as alluding that such a “mouth” should be directed away from ordinary conversation and used primarily for Torah alone.
