פרשת ואתחנן
Parshas Va’eschanan
פן תשא עיניך השמימה וראית את השמש ואת הירח… ונדחת והשתחוית להם… (ואתחנן ד:יט)
And lest you raise your eyes to the heaven and you see the sun, and the moon…and you be drawn astray and bow to them and worship them…
Why is one not allowed to bow to the sun? Is it not an honor for a king to give honor to his servant? The answer is this: Since every Yid possesses a G-dly spark, it is not an honor to bow to a servant as if he bows to the sun; it is as if the King bows to the servant.
