VORT ON THE PARSHA

Parshas Vayetzei
ונתן לי לחם לאכול ובגד ללבוש (ויצא כח:כ)
Yaakov asked for bread to eat and clothes to wearWhy does it have to say bread to eat, and clothes to wear? Obviously one eats bread and wears clothes? Yaakov went to Lavan’s house and he asked Hashem that he should be able to have food that he is able to eat = kosher food, and clothes that’s appropriate to wear = modest, and non-shatnez clothing. That’s why the pasuk says לחם לאכול – bread that’s permissible to eat, and ובגד ללבוש – and clothes that’s appropriate to wear.
